The Fall of the Mayor…

Posted by Matthew J. Podoba on January 31st, 2008

To realize just how far Rudy fell from front-runner to basement status, one needs to look no further than the mayor himself - his draconian positions, his behavior, and his hubris wrapped in the memories of 9/11.

Giuliani ran his campaign the way he wanted to run it - stubbornly.

His decision to effectively bypass most of the early states, and pinning his hopes on Florida was unrealistic, as discussed on this blog. Taking loss after loss - and being out of campaign trail main spotlight - was not a recipe for anything but failure.

The United States declassified documents Monday detailing how Washington propped up ex-Indonesian leader Suharto, who died last weekend, at the expense of democracy and human rights.

The documents, declassified following requests under a freedom of information law, showed the US failed to make Suharto accountable during his 32 - year reign until his last months in office.

“One thing that is clear from the tens of thousands of pages of which we had declassified concerning US ties with Suharto from 1966 to 1998 - at no moment did US presidents ever exercise their maximum leverage over his regime to press for human rights or democratization,” Brad Simpson of the National Security Archive told AFP.

The body, a non-governmental research institute at George Washington University in Washington, collects and publishes declassified documents obtained through the US Freedom of Information Act.

So I’m driving to work today and listening to the Ed Schultz Show on my local progressive station, when all of the sudden I hear Hillary Clinton start screeching…

ARE YOU WITH ME! ARE YOU WITH ME! ARE YOU WITH ME! ARE YOU WITH ME! ARE YOU WITH ME! ARE YOU WITH ME! ARE YOU WITH ME!!!

Apparently she was wigging out on some unsuspecting campaign crowd this afternoon in California.

And in case you are wondering…no I didn’t write seven times for literary effect. She actually screamed it seven times in a row.

After checking to see if the lenses in glasses were still intact, and then trying to figure out if it was a tape loop or not, I was at that moment being told by the host, “and that wasn’t a loop folks,”

Okay then.

Wait a minute. I suddenly realized…that this could very well have been Hillary Clinton’s ‘Howard Dean’ moment! You remember the ‘Dean Scream.’ After I heard that, I called my buddy to tell him that I would be free through the election in ‘04 because my campaign commitment to Dean just ended - I thought. Of course it won’t appear for 72 hours straight in the news cycle like Dean’s little oopsy did in the ‘04 campaign, but it looks bad for Clinton nonetheless.

Surely this was an Obama supporter with a digital loop looking to paint Hillary as a loose lugnut on the campaign trail right?

Most people believe in God. This means to believe in an omnipotent, perfect and infinite being.

Since it is believed by most that he exists, these people must also assume that he created the universe and everything in it.

That God, it is argued, possesses all of this power, with the ability to see not only everything that has happened or will happen, but also what could happen.

Believers find it strange that anyone could believe in such a being and yet see their own existence as a result of mere chance. In other words, God does not play with dice.

President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki issued a joint letter in November that could ensure a long U.S. presence in Iraq. On the surface, the “Declaration of Principles” appears as a mutual “expression of friendship,” but some see it as a defacto treaty that was not ratified by Congress.

Condi Rice Tries to Talk Up the U.S. Economy in Light of Looming Recession…

Posted by Matthew J. Podoba on January 24th, 2008

Our all too invisible “Secretary of State” is in the news.

The Bush administration decided it would be beneficial to send Condi Rice abroad to ‘talk up’ the U.S. economy in light of a looming economic downturn, that some say already has begun. She talked of the U.S. economy having sound fundamental principles for future growth and how any downturn could be headed off before it became destructive.

I wonder if the power elite in this country believe half the shit they shovel out to the American people?

Sound fundamental principles?

This same business and money elite I refer to, and in particular this President, has sold this country down the economic river long ago.
