Shadow Democracy Signing Off…

Posted by Matthew J. Podoba on March 21st, 2008

After some very careful consideration, I have decided to shut down the Shadow Democracy blog. My reasons are diverse - some very personal. I feel compelled to offer a brief explanation to my readers for this decision.

Recent months have seen some dramatic events in my life, including the death of two close family members - one being my mother. As a result of these events, the time I traditionally dedicated to this blog and the quality of its content, I felt, was compromised. I am currently unable to post daily as I wish to, and I am also unable to research my posts properly. My readers deserve better, and frankly, so do I.

I will be relaunching a new blog in the coming weeks that will be hosted on Wordpress, and I hope my loyal reading will find the way to the new site. In the mean time, I urge all of you to check out a blog that I hope to network with, run by a an informed and very dear friend of mine at ideasandrevolution.net. Thank you for your support.

Best Regards,

Matthew J. Podoba, Editor Shadow Democracy

Hillary’s Biggest Problem Continues to be Hillary

Posted by Matthew J. Podoba on February 14th, 2008

One of Hillary Clinton’s last lines of defense against the onslaught that is Barack Obama in her continual effort to alter her message in order to gain some traction, is the notion that she has been “vetted” and he has not. In other words, she has been through the grinder, thus her armor is thick.

All the bad stuff that can be thrown at her already has been, she argues, she is more experienced she argues, she has solutions instead of rhetoric, and that gives her the advantage. She said this past week in an interview, “One thing you know about me is that I have been vetted. I’ve been through this. I understand exactly what is coming at me, and there isn’t any new information. I mean, it’s just more of the same. It’s been recycled over and over again. I don’t think we can say that about my opponent.”

Really?

I think that may be wishful thinking.

Once you engage in ‘questionalble’ financial and legal activities in your quest to become a power broker in the is country, you must live with your decision - forever.

The big showdown has been brewing for weeks after the Berkeley city council voted to ask the Marines Corp. to close the recruiting station downtown near the UC Berkeley campus because they are “unwelcome intruders”. The issue has been the city not wanting the Marines to recruit their young people for the Iraq War that is not supported by the majority of the people in the city.

Hundreds of people from anti-war groups like Code Pink will be met by support-the-troops groups that is sure to be interesting.

The San Francisco Chronicle has been covering the story…

Since all of the arguments against God and religion have been widely publicized for many years, it must be upsetting for non-believers who wonder why the ‘believers’ persist.

Maybe religion and God are eradicable. Maybe a propensity toward religion is hardwired into the brain. Certainly, psychologists have documented the existence between certain psychological processes and leanings toward God.

No matter what dynamic is at work, I would argue that this relationship, whatever it is, between God and man, is becoming frayed.

Why Huckabee Won’t Go Away Quietly…

Posted by Matthew J. Podoba on February 9th, 2008

Why should he?

Another day, another win for Huckabee in Kansas. If you talk to him, it’s just another day at the office in fulfilling his goal of coming from behind, riding the back of disgruntled conservatives who simply despise McCain, and pulling even in delegates (if Romney throws him his support - and the rumor mill is turning).

Huckabee trounced McCain in Kansas 62% to 22%. And afterwards, when interviewed, he used a Superbowl analogy, “the Giants didn’t quit half way through the fourth, and neither am I.”

Remember, this is the same guy who lost Missouri by a hair, and if he had won, things would really be interesting.

His appeal? He is really likable and
